Microsoft® Excel® is the pre-eminent tool for sophisticated financial analysis and mathematical modeling. Unfortunately, beyond Wall Street and academia, most businesses, big and small, rarely exploit or even comprehend the full power and capabilities of Excel. While most Excel users understand how to apply basic formulae in their worksheets, there are a wealth of advanced formulae that can greatly improve worksheet efficiency and provide functionality far beyond that of basic, well-worn Excel formulae.

Excel contains a powerful back-end scripting environment, Visual Basic for Applications or VBA, that allows for the development of highly-automated, worksheet-based applications. This can provide the Excel user with the ability to manipulate and report complex data without using any front-end formulae at all. Iterative processing of data records (that may be local to the active Excel workbook or stored in a separate data container) can be fully-automated and highly-controlled.
